At 90 years old, America's most well-respected retired auto executive Bob Lutz still has plenty of horsepower flowing through his veins. Lutz has held key leader positions at the big three automobile manufacturers having been the executive vice president and board member of Ford Motor Company, president and then vice chairman and board member of Chrysler, and vice chairman of General Motors.

His keen sense of understanding both the car consumer as well as the automobile enabled Lutz to have his fingerprint on many of our most memorable rides, including the Dodge Viper which many would say was his vision.

As an ex-Marine fighter pilot who only stopped flying his three fighter jets in the last ten years, Lutz is a true Top Gun aviator. While our discussion focused on the history of Hot Rods and Muscle Cars, we had to ask if his need for speed, which started as a young pilot, helped mold him for a life in the car industry. He, of course, said yes and also mentioned the strict Marine training and focus was what set him up for success later in life. This combination gave Lutz a unique style of leadership and vision.

After our filming, he did a few laps around his estate with one of his many prized possessions, a Cunningham C4-R.

We are thrilled and honored to have Mr. Bob Lutz featured in our film, Detroit: The City of Hot Rods & Muscle Cars. Like Tim Allen and Chip Foose, he will be offering an important perspective on Detroit's aftermarket car building community.
