This past Saturday we had the pleasure of documenting the gathering of the Henry Ford's Drivers Club members at the Hagerty Insurance hosted event Cars and Caffeine at The Henry Ford in Dearborn. Representing Hagerty Insurance was Samantha Pina, Hagerty is one the leading supporters of car events that brings together the baby boomers and future generations.
This event gave us an opportunity to gain an understanding of what the Henry Ford’s Drivers Club was all about and the value they bring to one of America’s greatest museums of everything cars as well as historical life in general.
The active membership, which grows daily, sole purpose is to bring attention and philanthropic support for the museum's mission of educating and inspiring community members today and for years to come.
Guys and gals bring out their rides to show them off and swap stories of days gone by with each other as well as offer those who are not car collectors to get up close to cars that might have deep rooted memories of their childhood.
Car Collector Larry Smith, the chairman of Henry Ford’s Drivers Club, shared with us from inside his yellow Ferrer Dino GT the significance of being able to bring car collectors together to not only support the museum but give the drivers an opportunity to connect and share the car culture in a very unique language.
Spencer Medford, the Vice President & Chief Advancement Officer at Henry Ford, offered a few words on the value these car owners and the drivers clubs bring to the museum through their passion for cars of yesterday as well as today.
Through all of the eye candy on display, two moments that stole the show was watching the interaction between little 3-year-old Sebastian with his grandfather Michael Day, the owner of the yellow Triumph, both wearing Hot Wheels t-shirts. And of course, when Lauren Mendelson pulled in next to a '65 Mustang with her 2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition. She loves when guys walk up to the car knowing that this is the best version of today’s ultimate muscle car, never expecting to see a petite 5’2 gal to step out.
We are thankful to the Henry Ford's Drivers Club for letting us spend a beautiful Michigan morning with their car club members.
