Yesterday was a beautiful day for a drive. Thanks to Chris Causley, the President at the Michigan Military Technical Historical Society, we were able to film eight Vietnam veterans with their muscle cars for a gathering at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park in Eastpointe:

Don Kramer with a 1955 Chevrolet 210 Bel Air
David Zappa - 1965 Chevrolet Malibu SS
Don Gilbert - 1970 Plymouth Cuda
David Hoffman - 1969 Dodge Dart GTO
Gerald Horn - 1967 GTO
Art Meyer - 1970 El Camino SS (original owner)
Michael O’Neil - 1980 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Richard Tweedle - 1985 ½ Mustang SVO

Once we finished filming our veterans convoying down the road and into the park for a nice shot of all of their cars together, we headed to the Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society for one-on-one interviews with each veteran.

“The Michigan Military Technical & Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the stories of Michigan citizens who served and sacrificed, here and abroad, from WWII to present day. The 11,000 square foot museum exhibits the actual equipment, weapons, uniforms and other artifacts that bear witness to the high cost of freedom.”

It isn’t uncommon to see groups of veterans come together for car shows, cruises, and gatherings to spend time with their fellow servicemen. Car culture life post-war is one of the ways these men are able to unite to share their interests and swap stories. We are honored to have met these incredible men and feature their muscle cars in our film, Detroit: The City of Hot Rods & Muscle Cars. Gentlemen, thank you for your service.
